Institute of Statistics
The Singapore Institute of Statistics (SIS) has been registered as a
professional association in Singapore since 1975.
Objectives
The objectives of the Institute are
- to promote the advancement of
statistics and its applications.
- to encourage the improvement
of education in statistics and the training of those interested in
statistics.
- to advance the character and
status of the profession of statistics and its applications and the
interests of those engaged therein.
- to facilitate the exchange of
information about statistics and its applications through meetings,
exhibitions, publications and other ways.
- to publicize and disseminate
information about statistics and its application and on matters concerning
the profession.
- to represent the opinion of
the members of the Institute on matters related to the objects of the
Institute.
- to secure and distribute
grants and loans for education and research in statistics and its
applications.
Membership
Membership categories:
Member:
- Any person who possesses a
basic degree, diploma or postgraduate degree in statistics granted by a
university or a tertiary institution recognized by the Council.
- Any person who possesses a
basic degree, diploma or postgraduate degree in subjects allied to
statistics and has at least one year’s working experience in statistical
work or statistical education.
- Any person who has at least
eight years’ experience in such responsible work in statistics or its
applications and has produced evidence, such as published papers, to
satisfy the Council that he has adequate experience and has contributed to
the advancement of the study of statistics.
Associate Member:
- Any person a person who has
had a satisfactory general education and at least five years of work which
demands a knowledge of statistics or its applications as shall satisfy the
Council.
Student Member:
- Any person who is undergoing
a course of study in statistics or related subjects at a recognized
tertiary institution of learning.
- A full-time postgraduate
student in statistics who is eligible for Membership may be a Student
Member.
Membership fees:
Categories Entrance Fee Annual Subscription
Members $10 $30
Associate Members $10 $15
Student Members $10 $5
The entrance fee and subscription shall accompany each membership
application form, and shall not be refundable except when an application is
rejected.
Privileges:
Members of the society are entitled to the following privileges:
- reduced fees for conferences,
seminars and courses organized by the Institute.
- opportunity to meet fellow
statistical practitioners.
